Isabella I of Castile was born on April 22, 1451 and was laid to rest on November 26, 1504 at the age of 54. She was married to Ferdinand II of Aragon who was king of Spain. Together they brought the Spanish empire to glory. Isabella funded Christopher Columbus’s trips which resulted in the discovery of the new world. She helped lower Spain’s crime rates to its lowest in centuries. She saved Spain’s economy from crashing by fixing the great debt that he brother had left behind. Although she lived a short life she is remembered for taking part in one of Spain’s most historical events which is The Spanish inquisition. During this time she and her husband ordered that all Jews, Muslims and any other religions to conform to the Catholic religion. These religions where to become catholic or be exiled and burned at stake.
